Family Newsletter 11/4

Posted Date: 11/03/24 (11:00 AM)

Dear North Eugene Families,

As we step into November, we’re excited to embrace the season of gratitude and reflection. This month brings with it opportunities for growth, connection, and learning, both inside and outside the classroom. We encourage you to take some time to discuss with your students the importance of community and thankfulness, especially as we approach the holiday season.

This Friday, students will have the day off so teachers can handle their mid-term grading. Please be on the lookout for grades in the mailbox.

Thank you for your continued support!

Pass/No Pass Information Prior to MidTerm Grades

Just a reminder that North Eugene High School offers the Pass/No Pass grading option for some classes.:
B. Pass/No Pass grading **P/NP is only available for the 24-25 school year. ** Agreement on a Pass/No Pass grading option must be agreed upon by student and teacher. A teacher or counselor must submit the Pass/No pass approval form no later than two weeks post quarter grading day. Courses with a P/NP grade do not have an impact on the GPA and they are not weighted. Students and Parents need to discuss the impact of a P/NP on a transcript with a teacher or counselor. There can be impacts of choosing this grading option on post-secondary education options. Once a P/NP grading option is agreed upon, that decision is final.

COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER NEWS
   Hello Senior Families,
Now is the time for seniors planning on continuing their education to be submitting college applications and applying for financial aid. Below is some information to help as you navigate the next couple months:
   COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS:
Apply to colleges of your choice via Common App or direct to the institution
Early Action Deadline: November 1st for most schools. Students who have applied and have a complete application file will be notified by mid-December. We suggest all students apply Early Action if possible!

Regular Application Deadline: normally in January of February for most schools (i.e. UO = Jan. 15th; OSU = Feb. 3). Students wishing to receive full consideration for admission and aim to have access to the greatest set of scholarship opportunities should apply by this date.

Transcript Request for Colleges: Students must request their high school transcripts through Naviance. Instructions: Access Naviance here and "Continue with the Single Sign On" using your 4j credentials. Under the "Colleges" tab, choose "Colleges I'm Applying To". Add your colleges and request all 3 transcripts: Initial, Mid-year, Final.  Need help? See your counselor or email/swing by the College Career Center.

Lane Community College: Students interested in attending Lane Community College in Fall 2025 can apply anytime after this Saturday, October 26th, when the application portal opens for next fall. There is a $25 application fee this year. If you would like a waiver to avoid the $25 charge, see Catherine in the College and Career Center for the special code.

   FINANCIAL AID:

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): All US citizens and eligible noncitizens seeking financial aid help to attend trade school, community college, or 4-year university should fill out the FAFSA form - here! FAFSA will open in December. The student and a parent will have to create a FSA ID (username and password) - you can do this now! Creating your FSA ID in advance helps quicken the process - click here!
ORSAA: Oregon residents who have undocumented status, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), or a valid U-visa should submit the ORSAA.  ORSAA will open in December.  Link here!
Oregon Promise Grant: The Oregon Promise is a state grant that helps cover tuition costs at any Oregon community college, like Lane Community College, for recent high school graduates and GED® test graduates. Students with a 2.0 gpa or higher are eligible! Apply here - the application is now open!
OSAC Scholarship Application: The OSAC Scholarship Application provides Oregon students one easy application to apply for multiple scholarships at one time. OSAC awards more than $10 million in scholarships annually through more than 600 scholarships. The application will open November 1 and the final deadline is March 3rd. Apply here!
Scholarships: as local, regional, and state scholarships announce their openings, we will share with you!
